A day we will never forget
On 15 November 2017, the results of the Australian Marriage Law Postal Survey were read aloud and the answer was clear: YES. A resounding, undeniable, 61.6 percent YES.
We remember exactly where we were when the news broke. Tears, cheers, and an overwhelming sense of relief that Australia had finally caught up with what so many of us already knew in our hearts, that love is love.
As a wedding film and photography studio, we have spent years documenting the most important day in people's lives. We have witnessed hundreds of couples exchange vows, share first dances, and begin their forever. Through all of those weddings, one thing has always been true: love does not look one particular way. It never has.
What this meant for our studio
For us at She Said Yes, the YES vote was more than a political milestone. It was personal. It meant that every single couple who walked through our door could now plan a wedding that was recognised equally under Australian law. No asterisks, no exceptions.
We had always welcomed every couple. But after the vote, something shifted. There was a new energy in the conversations we were having with couples across Queensland. Joy that had been held back for years was finally free, and we felt genuinely honoured to be part of capturing it.
Our name is She Said Yes, and on that November morning, Australia said yes too.
Love wins, every single time
The marriage equality vote reminded us why we do what we do. Every wedding we photograph and film is a celebration of two people choosing each other. That is something worth protecting, worth fighting for, and worth documenting beautifully.
To every couple who can now marry the person they love, we see you. We celebrate you. And we would be so proud to tell your story.
